Job Description

America Reads/America Counts (ARAC) is a federally funded program that pays the wages of college students to tutor elementary school students in reading and math and middle school students in math. ARAC tutors are hired by the Center for Community Engagement and placed in local schools. Tutors control their schedules each semester by selecting their preferred school, day, and time of tutoring. That schedule stays the same for the duration of the semester and is reset at the beginning of each semester to accommodate students' class changes. Transportation is not provided for tutors, but typically students are able to carpool with other tutors during the same time slot. One school partner, Alex II, is located less than one block from Mercer and is a good walking option. Partner schools and organizations for the fall will include but are not limited to: Alexander II Elementary, Ingram Pye Elementary, and Campus Clubs afterschool program.

Must be an enrolled Mercer student with a federal work-study award. Must be available to tutor during the school day or after school (4-6pm) for a minimum of two hours per week and a maximum of ten hours per week.
